Electric field control of electromagnon frequency in multiferroics

Electromagnons, which are coupled polar and magnetic excitations in magnetoelectric materials, of large interest for electronic computing technological devices. Using molecular dynamics simulations based on an ab initio effective Hamiltonian, we predict that the frequency several electromagnons can be tuned by application electric fields model multiferroic ${\mathrm{BiFeO}}_{3}$, with this either increasing or decreasing depending selected electromagnon. In particular, show localized at ferroelectric domain walls over a 200 GHz range realistic dc fields. We interpret realized increase (decrease) local hardening (softening) associated phonons couples to applied field. The versus decrease electromagnon is further found correlated real-space localization such phonons.
